Yonex VCORE 100+(Plus) Racket Review

This really was one of our favourite sticks to hit with this year! It was an extremely solid feeling from the baseline, there’s no way you’d get bullied from the back of the court playing with this racket!

The extended length adds a surprising amount more pop compared to the standard version, whilst the high stiffness rating and swing weight makes the racket feel beefy and powerful which gives you a lot of confidence when ramping up the intensity of your tennis.

It’s super easy to get great pace and depth with the VCORE 100+ and this is no doubt down to the extended length.

Occasionally the ball would fly on me and I would have to dial back the power in my shots a bit, and it has to be said this racket did get a bit of getting used to at the beginning of the play test.

When you approach a 300g racket you expect it to play relatively similar to most other mid plus rackets in this category.

However, the VCORE 100+ plays more like a 310g or 315g racket in fairness. It is a hefty feeling racket that is arguably more maneuverable than its weighter siblings, so it really strikes a nice balance of power, control, spin and usability.

Players that are used to more popular models around the 300g mark like a Babolat Pure Strike or Wilson Blade may find this racket a bit difficult to play with due to the higher than average swing weight.

But, if you can get used to it and dial in your groundstrokes, the rewards are definitely worth it!

The Yonex VCORE 100+ felt very solid up at the net. This is not surprising considering how hefty the racket feels in the hand for a mid plus, but it did lack some maneuverability at times and this did detract ever so slightly from the volleying experience.

The racket was certainly not cumbersome and it did feel nice and crisp to knife volleys with. But when hitting quick reaction volleys one after another it did take a bit of an effort to get the racket up and above the wrist every time.

It felt very solid and reliable when hitting high volleys or more powerful swinging volleys, but did lack a little bit of feel on drop volleys and angled volleys. Perhaps a softer string setup would compliment the stiffness and weight quite nicely.

The extended length of this racket really helped with the plow through and power generation on serve. Its open string pattern was great for carving out slice serves and adding more kick to my topspin serves, giving me a lot of confidence when I stepped up to the baseline.

Being such a powerful and solid feeling racket, the VCORE 100+ really held its own when going for big serves and actually encourages you to hit the ball big thanks to the stiffness rating and higher swing weight.

Despite being less stiff and more maneuverable than the previous generation, you can still get a great deal of pop on serve thanks to the new technology Yonex has added to this model.

So you really get a great combination of power, control and stability on serve, with that added benefit of your arm not getting so tired so quickly!

The stability of the Yonex VCORE 100+ made returning feel great. It was incredibly easy to block the ball back with confidence as the racket felt solid enough to carry the ball deep into the opponent’s court with just the smallest of inputs.

It felt like hitting a volley block technique was enough to neutralise the point and get into the rally.

Adding a lot of spin and power when looking to be aggressive on second serve return felt natural with the VCORE 100+ too, as the large sweet spot and chunky swing weight encouraged me to really go after my returns and make something happen at the start of the point.

The only real downside when returning was the lack of damping which at times sent a few vibrations up my arm if I shanked or mistimed the ball. This was only a minor concern and nothing that a good shock absorber or change in string setup could dial out.

Overall, the Yonex VCORE 100+ was a very enjoyable racket to hit with. It had a powerful, solid feeling and offered a lot of easy access to power and spin, despite being slightly more maneuverable than its predecessor.

It definitely punches above its weight in terms of stability and is a reasonably comfortable racket despite its swing weight and stiffness rating.

If you are an aggressive baseliner that is looking to add a lot of easy power to your game and want a reliable, solid feeling racket to accompany you, this VCORE 100+ could be the perfect tool for the job.

Although it was not necessarily the most feelsome racket in its class, it felt great to rip ground strokes with and instilled a lot of confidence when going for big serves.
